Our guide Tom DIEUSAERT and his new book

Tom Dieusaert - Antwerp Bike Tours Guide
There is a reason why we claim that we have the best guides in the city.
One of our guides, Tom DIEUSAERT has even written his own book called Rond de Kaap telling the story of one man's fight against the most powerful multinational of the seventeenth century: the Dutch East India Company (VOC). After the separation of the Netherlands during the Eighty Years' War, Isaac le Maire was one of hundreds of wealthy Calvinist merchants from Antwerp who settled in Amsterdam at the end of the sixteenth century. There he became one of the pioneers of the VOC. But his individualistic and rebellious character inevitably brought him into conflict with the VOC's state monopoly. Ultimately, he and his son would discover the passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans along the mythical Cape Horn. Tom Dieusaert conducted historical research and followed the trail of this fascinating figure from Antwerp, Egmond, Den Helder, and Amsterdam to Patagonia and Cape Horn.
