KMSKA & Antwerp South

Following an 11-year grand renovation, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp is finally open again, anchoring the trendy and vibrant neighborhood of Het Zuid.

The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) (Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen) is the largest and most prestigious art museum in Flanders. Having reopened its doors in 2022 after more than a decade of meticulous renovations, it seamlessly blends 19th-century neoclassical grandeur with striking, stark white contemporary modern extensions.

The KMSKA houses an astonishing collection covering seven centuries of art history, featuring an impressive inventory from the Flemish Primitives to Expressionists. Among its highlights are unparalleled bodies of work by Peter Paul Rubens and the world’s largest collection of paintings and drawings by James Ensor.

The museum's grand facade presides over a newly designed square located in Het Zuid (The South). Characterized by stately mansions, wide, leafy boulevards, and a Parisian atmosphere, Het Zuid is widely celebrated as Antwerp's trendiest district. Its vibrant mix of art galleries, contemporary art institutions (like the M HKA), upscale boutiques, hip cafes, and fine-dining establishments makes it the perfect place to stroll, dine, and experience the modern pulse of the city.
